My first week as a single mom...

It was an adventurous week for us here in St. Louis Park. Adam left and there were many changes. First, Sivan officially entered the terrible twos. I don't care if she's only 18 months. She's really wonderful most of the time, but the word she has used most is "no" this week. She's learned ways to say it. NOOOO! (while screaming and throwing things). or "no ima" (which sounds like "duh ima, of course i don't want that") and "no way" (i have no idea who taught her that one). I could say "sivan do you want this delicious popsicle with a lollipop on top?" and that's often answered by "no ima". Then, suddenly i put it back in the freezer "NOOOO!!!"
(there is no such thing as a popsicle with a lollipop on top, but that would be sivan's dream. in fact the other day we were talking about aba being away and i said "do you miss aba?" and she said "miss aba...miss lollipop". i guess she thinks miss = love.

Second, she decided that to challenge me further by crawling out of her playpen. I realized this meant the crib was next. The one place I could put her in while I showered. That night, I converted her room to a toddler room and she is now sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

It's been really tough, but on the other hand, I'd say my mothering has improved in the last week. Given that I thrive on learning and improvement, this has rejuvenated me somewhat. We've also bonded immensely--I get so many hugs and cuddles now and she screams if she's not with me...so it's sort of flattering, although most of the time I just wish she'd trust that I only leave her in capable, good hands. We went to the Science Museum, pool, splashpark twice, ben and jerry's, and out to eat a few too many times because I'm not quite used to doing EVERYTHING yet all by myself, but my ambitious agenda for these next few days includes more cooking.
what else has happened?
well, i got locked out of my house twice. had to call 911 the second time. scared the %#$# out of me because sivan was inside. i found out sivan's best friend in preschool (her jewish preschool) is a muslim (somali i think). her name is siman. and siman is apparently sivan's "pacifier". i asked if i could take her home. anyway, seeing the two of them hug makes me hopeful and yet sad...i wish people could just get along like they do.
Adam in the meantime has been a trooper living in a hotel while people who are making a killing off of us don't seem to be in any rush to get a closing on our house down...
I have been working the past year on my adult bronze freeskate test. I passed today which was a nice goal achieved. Including that also below
thanks for all the bday wishes from everyone...it cheered me up immensely.

Yasmine,

Your skating video is so beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes when I watched - something that hasn't happened since I watched Sasha Cohen perform in the 2006 winter Olympics!
