Was it Brian Williams?

so the grandparents keep asking for more pictures. i'm sure what they really mean is please yasmine, share with us your latest musings...

so there i am feeling sorry for myself because i've heard one too many"my baby slept through the night at "Sivan's Age-X""...and wondering why my baby hasn't gone more than 2.5 hours in the night (i highly suggest someone publicize a code of etiquette that says no one should EVER share with a new mother that it took their baby "age of new mother's baby + eternity" to sleep through the night OR that it happened way earlier than the new mother's baby. new etiquette should dictate you say: "Oh? Your baby is nearly 6 weeks old? Yes, mine began sleeping a lot at 6 weeks." Just lie. It's easier.).

ANYWAY, sivan and i are watching brian williams nightly news and out she is like a light. i decide let's just see what happens if i don't wake her to feed her...

nearly 6 hours later, my daughter has finally slept through the night. the problem? it is now midnight and she's the happiest i have ever seen her (yes, i'm sure you are wondering what's the problem...). not even screaming for hunger! i got my first real smile meant for me! (look what sleep does for development!), i see her on the diaper changing table and swear she is much bigger than she was 6 hours prior! and she hasn't pooped! i put her in the crib AWAKE and she doesn't fuss! WHO IS THIS GIRL?? 6 hours of sleep and she is a NEW WOMAN! i wonder what six hours of sleep would do for her mommy? i can't imagine. now sivan is ready to call it a morning! the problem? i am not. it is midnight and i haven't slept a wink! turns out we figured out the problem though--bedtime for sivan is 6 pm. if anyone knows how toshift a baby's schedule 6 hours forward....please share. please.

maybe it's time to consider moving to israel. that'd get us on a good schedule :)

Yasmine,

Faye was NOT sleeping through the night at 6 weeks, but that is about the time I started going crazy without sleep. The book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Weissbluth was a HUGE help for us. I still refer back to it. And, it is written by a Psychologist, so it should be right up your alley. I also like that you can just read about your kid's age, and you don't have to follow an exact plan. It just offers healthy ideas and recommendations for each age.

And, know that it gets better! It really does!

Love,
Shannon
